How to Pay for ABA
There are different ways to finance ABA therapy services. In addition to paying privately, insurance, the school district, or local regional center may provide funding to eligible children. To get ABA therapy through a health insurance plan or regional center, you must know your type of health insurance.

Medi-Cal and State Funding for Behavioral Health Treatment
Under the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) Medicaid benefit, Medi-Cal covers all medically necessary Behavioral Health Treatment (BHT) for eligible beneficiaries. This includes services such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. A physician or psychologist must recommend ABA therapy as medically necessary. It is important to note that Medi-Cal does not require an autism diagnosis for individuals to access ABA therapy services. Additionally, Medi-Cal provides coverage for both fee-for-service and Medi-Cal managed care plans.
For children with fee-for-service Medi-Cal, ABA therapy services will be provided through their local regional center. If you have fee-for-service Medi-Cal and are interested in exploring ABA therapy, you should contact your regional center to discuss available services and funding options. If you have fee-for-service Medi-Cal and are not currently a client of a regional center, reach out to one to determine your eligibility. Alternatively, you can go directly to your primary care provider, such as your pediatrician, and inquire about ABA therapy services.
